South West athletes learnt from the best of the best when a former Olympian visited late last year. Former Hockeyroo, and Commonwealth Games Gold Medallist Fiona Ryan presented a captivating keynote address to SWAS athletes providing a platform for athletes to gain valuable insights, motivation, and guidance from a renowned expert in their field.

SWAS chief executive Bernice Butlion described Ryan’s presence as a privilege. “We were thrilled to have Fiona Ryan deliver a keynote-style address to our athletes last night,” said Butlion.

“Her expertise and passion for personal growth and commitment resonated deeply with our athletes, leaving a lasting impact on their journey towards excellence.”

Ryan engaged the athletes in thought-provoking discussion, covering a wide range of topics essential for their development. These included self-awareness of beliefs and thoughts, stepping outside of comfort zones, and fully committing to their aspirations.

Attending athletes expressed their appreciation for the opportunity to hear Ryan’s insights and expertise, as they strive to become the best versions of themselves.

The event was made possible by a collaboration between SWAS and the Department of Local Government, Sport, and Cultural Industries (DLGSC), whose commitment continues to support athletes’ growth and opportunities for personal development.

SWAS thanked DLGSC for their continued dedication to nurturing and empowering athletes and said it was proud to have facilitated an enriching experience for its athletes.
