Thomas collects another State record

There is nothing better than crossing the finish line in first place – except doing so knowing you’ve run a faster time than anyone your age in Western Australia. Ever.

Just ask junior athletics star Thomas Cross, who has been etching his name into the history books by breaking records.

His most recent triumph was being part of the West Track Under 16 Men’s 4x400m relay team that smashed a State relay record at the 2021 State Relay Championships powered by Go For 2&5 in December.

Cross – together with teammates Jordan Hamilton, Kayel Ascoli and Bob Abdelrahin – achieved the time of 3:26.42 in the event, shaving almost 10 seconds off the previous fastest time.

As well as achieving success in team events, being quick on the running track has also led the superfast 16-year-old Brunswick Junction resident to break individual State records.

Most recently, he set the time to beat in the Under 16  800m event, with a personal best of 1:53.77.

“I was insanely shocked because I was not expecting that time,” Cross said.

The South West Academy of Sport athlete, who has previously smashed the Under 15 State record for the 800m event and has competed on the national stage, put his success down to his work ethic towards training.
