Fun run once again attracts a crowd

It’s billed as the fun run for everyone – and it once again lived up its reputation, attracting both enthusiasts and serious competitors to the Ridley Place Foreshore Park in Australind this year.

The SWAS Albemarle Fun Run saw hundreds of participants either walking or running in the family-friendly event when it was held on Saturday March 19.

Because of the way the event is designed with categories accommodating people of different ages and abilities, youngers were able to compete in the same fun run as their sporting heroes.

Competitors could choose from a 10km run, 5km run or 5km walk in junior and senior categories.

Meanwhile, a special 2km category gave school-aged children the opportunity to experience the thrill of participating in a fun run – many for the first time.

There were medals for every finisher, cash prizes for category winners, and lucky draw prizes for participants.

Held annually, the event encourages teamwork, an active lifestyle and community spirit.

SWAS chief executive officer Bernice Butlion said it was great to see so many people from the community supporting the event, with special thanks to event sponsor Albemarle.

“Everyone who came to the fun run, came for a different reason,” Butlion said.

“We noticed the diversity, including the large number of families and walkers taking part.

“We would like to thank Albemarle for their valued support of the SWAS Albemarle Fun Run and we extend our thanks to everyone in the community who come out to support the event.

“We hope that you enjoyed the fun run.”
