Preparing the next generation of stars

Reaching the top levels of football doesn’t happen overnight. It takes a lot of hard work behind the scenes.

That’s why pre-season training for up-and-coming footballers at the South West Academy of Sport starts early.

For months now, SWAS footy players start have been preparing to take the next steps on the football pathway by participating in specialised training sessions.

This year’s young hopefuls have been going through their paces every Saturday morning at Hay Park under the guidance of SWAS football head coach Jamie Douse.

The focus during these weekend sessions is on athletic development, speed and agility.

The specialised training, which is complemented with gym sessions up to three times a week, will help prepare the athletes for WAFL Colts and WAWFL, as well as state academy programs.
