Applications for Individual Athlete Support Program open to Tuesday April 20
There is still time for young South West athletes wanting to pursue a career in sport to apply to be part of a program that helps participants take their game to the next level.
The South West Academy of Sport is accepting applications to its 2019/20 Individual Athlete Support Program until this Tuesday April 30.
Open to teenagers aged between 15 and 18 who are excelling at their chosen discipline, the program offers young sports men and women high-level support in the daily training environment as they aspire to sport’s highest pinnacles.
SWAS chief executive officer Bernice Butlion said the aim of the program is to assist local talents to take the next step along the sporting pathway.
“We aim to assist athletes make the transition from state to national or national to international,” she said.
“And we do so by providing access to high-level support right here in the region athletes call home, reducing the need to travel.”
As part of the holistic range of services offered by SWAS, athletes can access high-performance coaching and training as well as service providers such as sports psychologists, physiotherapists and nutritionists.
