When Jacob Willcox was in the South West Academy of Sport, the then teenager made headlines around the world when he beat 11-time world champion Kelly Slater at an event at Portugal.
Since his academy days, the Prevelly product has not slowed down, continuing to ride a wave of success that’s been punctuated with achievements.
The goofyfooter recently make history by taking out the inaugural Phillip Island Pro.
The 20-year-old stamped his authority during the contest by surfing through the opening rounds with ease and being the dominant competitor during the semi-final and final rounds.
Victory was sealed for the surfing sensation when he secured a score of 17 during the final, besting Gold Coast surfer Mitch Parkinson who ended the competition on 14.50.
The Phillip Island Pro is a 1000 rated World Surf League Qualifying Series (QS) event.
