$235,000 over three years through the State Government’s Regional Athlete Support Program
Bunbury MLA Don Punch has welcomed the announcement that the South West Academy of Sport will receive $235,000 over three years through the State Government’s Regional Athlete Support Program.
“It’s just really great to see the academy have three years of certainty for funding going forward,” Mr Punch said.
“Really important for both the organisation itself but also in discussions they have with potential organisations so they are able to go out and seek sponsorship agreements for up to three years as well, so great news.
“SWAS makes such a difference to so many talented young people in our South West. It’s a small organisation but it has a huge heart and a huge reach.”
Since 2018, SWAS has supported the journeys of talented young South West sports men and women who have gone on to wear the green and gold at the highest levels.
The high-level training, coaching and support services provided by the not-for-profit organisation in the region has reduced the need for aspiring athletes and their families to travel to Perth so frequently.
Previously, athletes would have to travel to Perth to receive specialist coaching and services when pursuing their sporting careers.
