Relocating to Iowa in in pursuit of golfing career
Local teenager Nick Liebenberg will follow his dream of playing professional golf to the other side of the world when he takes up a coveted US student-athlete scholarship.
The 18-year-old will relocate from his home town of Margaret River to Cedar Rapids in Iowa this August to compete for Mount Mercy University.
“I’ve been wanting to go to the States to play college golf for a few years now,” Liebenberg said.
“It’s one of the better pathways to turn professional, which is what I want to do after college.”
As one of the Mount Mercy Mustangs, the South West Academy of Sport athlete will cross-cross the US as he competes in the popular US college sports system while working towards a degree.
The scratch golfer, who was connected to his college through a recruitment agency after graduating from Margaret River Senior High School last year, said he was looking forward to experiencing playing golf in another country.
In the meantime, Liebenberg is juggling work with time on the green at home in Margaret River.
