Meet one of our newest recruits – Serena Nandapi

Serena Nandapi has so much talent, it can’t be contained to just one sport.

From the netball court to the beach, the Binningup resident is excelling in both her chosen disciples – netball and surf lifesaving.

Her achievements include being part of this year’s Souwest Jets under-20 team, and bringing home a silver medal from the 2018 Australian Surf Life Saving Championships.

The teenager’s outstanding achievements in surf life saving recently earned her a highly sought after spot in the South West Academy of Sport’s Individual Athlete Support Program.

Her accomplishments in this sport include being a four-time beach sprinting state champion and representing Western Australia for the past two years in the Western Suns Youth Development Squad.

As a scholarship holder, the 16-year-old will receive high-level support to advance in the sport through access to specialist coaching and support services such as nutrition and strength and conditioning.

The extra assistance will come in handy as she prepares for the forthcoming surf life saving season.

Nandapi, who attends the Bunbury Catholic College’s Mercy Campus, said she loves the community side of sport. In order to compete at state and national competitions, she needs to complete 16 hours of beach patrol per season in addition to her training.

“With surf club I get to be at the beach, which is one of my favourite places in summer – and just be around friends,” Nandapi said.

“I’ve made friends all up and down the coast of WA.”
