Brings silver medal home

In terms of mementos from sporting trips, the one that Bunbury’s Indee Elphick has returned home from the Gold Coast with is an enviable one – a medal.

The South West Academy of Sport athlete was part of the black and gold-clad West Australian team that secured a top-two finish at the recent 16 and Under School Sport Australia Hockey Championships.

At the Gold Coast Hockey Centre earlier this month, the WA team stamped its authority as it clashed with teams from around the nation, culminating in the grand final against Queensland.

Elphick said he enjoyed the experience of playing hockey in such a competitive environment, saying it was the most serious event he has played in so far.

Next up for the 16-year-old is trialling for a Hockey WA under-17 development program at the end of September.

Hockey is one of three partner programs offered by SWAS that allow young talents in the South West to benefit from high-level training, coaching and specialist services in the region they call home.
