Melo Velo rewards young fun runner

Chevy Morris flashed cross the finish line in third place when he competed in the two kilometre division of the SWAS Telstra Fun Run earlier this month – but that wasn’t his only win.

The 10-year-old was also the winner of a lucky draw prize donated by local bike shop and café Melo Velo.

Though the original prize was a bicycle designed for a younger child, the team at the Victoria Street store decided to swap it for a more suitable bike so Chevy could enjoy his reward.

The new set of wheels was officially handed over to the Dalyellup Primary School student on Thursday March 22.

Melo Velo bike shop manager Brad Linfield said the store was happy to contribute back to the community and wanted to encourage locals to get into sport.

This year’s SWAS Telstra Fun Run drew a record field of participants, with more than 280 people taking part when it was held in Bunbury on Saturday March 17.

For the first time in the event’s four year history, a two kilometre race was held for primary school students.
