Medals handed out at finish line
There were plenty of smiles at the finish line of this year’s SWAS Wespine Fun Run, with everyone who completed the course around the Leschenault Inlet receiving a medal for their efforts.
About 300 people of all ages and abilities took part in the community event in Bunbury on Saturday March 14.
SWAS chief executive officer Bernice Butlion said the sixth annual event was well-received by all those involved.
“A lot of people in the community thanked me because it was something they could look forward to,” Butlion said.
“There were many special moments at the finish line as people received their medals. Some people said they had never received a medal before.”
In addition to medals, cash prizes were awarded to place-getters in junior and senior walking and running categories. There were also lucky draw prizes including a children’s bike donated by Melo Velo.
Butlion praised the community spirit and thanked volunteers and sponsors.
“It was amazing,” Butlion said.
“We’ll be back next year”.
