Taking the next step on a promising surfing career

Three-time West Australian under-18 champion Emma Cattlin has her eyes set on a surfing career and will this year compete in events that could catapult her onto the professional circuit.

With high school now completed, the Yallingup talent is focussing on surfing and the women’s qualifying series events that determine who qualifies for next year’s world championship tour.

The SWAS Individual Female Athlete of the Year has consistently shown she is one of the best in Australia, most recently showing her top form at nationals.

Cattlin finished second in the under-18 category at the 2019 Surf Dive ‘N Ski Australian Junior Surfing Titles.

Held in Margaret River over six action-packed days in December, the event is the biggest junior surfing tournament in the country.

“It was challenging for me as I was seeded straight into Round 3 because I was state champion for my state,” Cattlin said.

“I didn’t start my individual event until Day 5 of the competition. I had to try and keep my energy levels up and keep focusing as everyone on our team had already competed.”
