Back from 2018 NAB AFLW Under-18s Championships
She’s one of the shining lights on the junior football scene and Ella Smith has just taken another big step towards achieving her goal of being drafted to an AFLW team.
The South West Academy of Sport athlete was part of the WA side that completed the 2018 NAB AFLW Under-18s Championships with three victories over the five-match campaign.
Scoring wins against Queensland and the Eastern Allies in the carnival’s second series, the contest presented the Bunbury talent with an important platform for showcasing her skills in a leadership role.
“That’s what really the under-18s carnival is all about. Kind of showing off your talent and hopefully getting your name put out there − and that’s obviously my big dream, my big goal, to make AFLW,” she said.
“This year, I can draft as I turn 18 in August, but we will see how we go, I still have a lot of work to do.”
Part of West Coast’s High Performance Female Academy, the Newton Moore Senior High School Year 12 student is now concentrating on finishing off the season with the South Bunbury Football Club.
Smith will then take a well-earned break before getting into off-season training with the SWAS high performance football program.
