Sets sights on AFLW Draft
From playing Auskick in Margaret River to kicking some serious goals on the national stage, it’s been an exciting journey for Ella Roberts who continues to display her potential as she sets her sights on next year’s AFLW Draft.
Most recently, the South West Academy of Sport talent was named WA’s Most Valued Player at the NAB AFLW Under-19 National Championships earlier this month.
Despite her WA side falling short, Roberts put in a standout performance throughout the carnival and was presented with the MVP award.
“I was very honoured. I wasn’t really expecting it because there were lots of girls that definitely could have won the award,” Roberts said.
The 16-year-old Margaret River Senior High School student, who was part of Peel Thunder’s premiership team last year, said she enjoyed the experience of playing at an elite level and learning from her peers.
“It was so much fun. I made lots of new friends which was amazing. And I definitely feel like I learned a lot because all the girls were as good as me, or even better, which I found just really helped my skills.
“My aim is to keep playing good football and hopefully next year – when it is my Draft year – I get drafted. That’s the ultimate goal.”
