Midfielder looking forward to this year’s School Sport Australia 16 and Under Hockey Championships
There’s something special about competing at a national level – and Ella du Preez should know.
The upcoming School Sport Australia 16 and Under Hockey Championships in Newcastle will mark the talented midfielder’s seventh stint representing Western Australia on the national stage.
“Going to the nationals is just an amazing experience,” Du Preez said.
“Playing on that level, you improve and learn so much and grow as a person and a hockey player.
“And the hockey, it’s just a dream to go and play for your state in a sport that you love and put on the black and gold.
“There’s really nothing quite like it.”
Having competed for WA at five national outdoor tournaments and two national indoor carnivals, the 16-year-old South West Academy of Sport athlete has a good idea of what to expect when she runs out on the field at the championships.
Between August 3 and 10, teams from all states and territories of Australia will battle it out at the Newcastle International Hockey Centre with the aim of securing a top of the table finish and national title honours.
Du Preez, who most recently played for the Northern Territory at the under-18 national outdoor hockey championships in April, previously competed in a School Sport Australia event in an under-12s team.
