Countdown to event underway
Anticipation is building as to who will take out top honours at the biggest junior sports awards night in the South West.
On Friday December 7, the South West Academy of Sport will announce the winners of a number of highly-coveted prizes including the Sports Star of the Year and Wally Foreman Coach of the Year awards.
With the countdown to the event underway, medals are being shined and envelopes sealed as the local business community once again prepares to shine the spotlight on the region’s emerging talents.
Among those set to present an award on the night is The Apprentice and Traineeship Company chief executive officer Stan Liaros.
“The Apprentice and Traineeship Company is proud to be an inaugural sponsor of SWAS,” he said.
“As a private South West community-based organisation we are committed in our support of SWAS and its significant contribution to youth development and wellbeing, and the pursuit of excellence in the region.”
SWAS chief executive officer Bernice Butlion said the event will not only celebrate local junior athletes and coaches, but also the not-for-profit organisation’s tenth year of operation.
“This is a chance to showcase to the South West community the achievements of the academy and its athletes and those in the wider community,” she said.
In addition to being the first to know who the award winners will be, attendees will get a chance to be inspired by hearing the journeys of sporting heroes.
Guest speakers on the night will include recently retired kayaker Steve Bird who flew the flag for Australia at both the London 2012 and Rio 2016 Olympic Games.
The SWAS annual dinner and awards night will be held on Friday December 7 in the Cube at the Bunbury Regional Entertainment Centre.
The event is being made possible by a number of sponsors including The Apprentice and Traineeship Company, Nexus Risk Services, RCR Resources, Hexion Australia, Summit Realty South West, Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries, Onsite Rental Group, South West Chambers of Commerce and Industry, Lomax Media and Intersport Bunbury.
