What are the objectives of the program?
  • The South West Academy of Sport’s high performance tennis program aims to provide athletes with the necessary training and development opportunities that an elite athlete requires.
  • Athletes receive world-class on-court training, physical preparation, sports science and medical services.
  • SWAS tennis aims to use a holistic approach to development (technical, tactical, physical, and psychological).
  • SWAS tennis players work with a highly integrated sport science/medicine program.
What training does the program involve?

The program involves a once a week training session on the tennis court for two hours, plus conditioning sessions throughout the week. Players are also encouraged to have individual lessons with their private coach.

How does the program work?
  • The program rotates its training venues between Busselton and Bunbury. This makes travel easier for the players. Training is based on the school calendar.
  • During the holidays the players are encouraged to play tournaments in Perth or interstate to accumulate Australian Ranking (AR) points.
  • Players receive a musculoskeletal screening and follow up recommendations from the SWAS physiotherapists.
  • Players have been physically tested by the SWAS exercise physiologist.
  • Conditioning programs are run/written by the SWAS exercise physiologist.
  • All players attend sessions on sport psychology and nutrition.
