What are the objectives of the program?
- The South West Academy of Sport high performance netball program provides athletes with specialist training to help them reach their potential.
- All athletes in the SWAS program are current State Netball League representatives who are exposed to an exceptional program through the Griffin SW Jets Club. This includes exposure at the top level of competition in WA.
- SWAS netball uses a holistic approach to development, focusing on the individual as well as the qualities required to play in a team; covering physical, tactical, technique and psychological development.
What training does the program involve?
- All SWAS athletes are current members of the Griffin SW Jets Reserves or Under 18 teams who compete in the 2011 Smarter than Smoking State Netball League.
- Their preseason consists of:
1 x weekly court session
1 x weekly fitness training and
1 x weekly strength program. - During the preseason, athletes attend a two-day camp which includes specialist sessions, team building and off-court education.
- Throughout the competition period from April to July they will be exposed to video analysis and attend sports psychology sessions.
How does the program work?
- SWAS athletes will be encouraged and supported to trial for the State Academy, State Under 17 team and the State Under 16 School Girls team.
- SWAS service providers will be made available for these athletes. These services are dependent on athlete needs and availability.
