Making the most of a short break from competition before taking on the Tigers on Australia Day, South Dragons forward Mark Worthington dropped in to a recent South West Academy of Sport basketball training session.

On January 12 he met young athletes eager to follow in his footsteps and familiarised himself with the academy.

The visit was a prelude to the sessions the Olympian will coach this year as SWAS basketball patron.

Worthington, who grew up in Australind and represented Australia at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, said he felt honoured to have been given the role at the academy.

“Hopefully I will be somebody younger kids can look up to and inspire them to achieve their goals,” he said.
