BMX champion Lauren Reynolds says it is an honour to be named the South West Academy of Sport’s top athlete for 2009.

The promising rider, who achieved a seventh world ranking in the 2009 UCI BMX Supercross World Cup, received the SWAS Sports Star of the Year Award (sponsored by The Griffin Group) at a special dinner in Bunbury on Friday December 4.

“The South West Academy of Sport has been a lift up for the South West and the young talent coming through,” Reynolds said.

“It’s really something special to be part of the program and to win the overall Sports Star of the Year was even better again.

“It is an honour and something I will carry with me forever.

“The academy has done so much for myself, along with the other athletes out there in their chosen sports.”
