Sport and Recreation Minister Terry Waldron officially opened the South West Academy of Sport’s administration headquarters at the South West Sports Centre on the 5th November 2008.

Academy chief executive Bernice Butlion said the new office will act as an important administration hub as the academy progresses and provides talent development pathways to more and more gifted athletes.

Jason Stowe, group executive director of The Griffin Group attended the event and said it was heartening to see the progress the academy was making.

“As foundation partner, Griffin is proud to have helped the South West Academy of Sport become a reality for the local community,” he said.

“The opening of the new administration office is a significant milestone for the academy which will further enhance the support offered to local athletes in their pursuit of sporting excellence.”
