Dr Ern Manea AO is the inaugural patron of the South West Academy of Sport. He is a champion of regional development, health provision and an active supporter of a wide range of sports.

Dr Manea is a former mayor of the City of Bunbury and former director of the South West Development Authority. 

He was a commissioner of the WA State Planning Commission, world president of the International Trotting Association, president of the Inter-Dominion Trotting Council, Australian Trotting Council, WA Trotting Association and Bunbury Trotting Club. 

He is also former president of the Bunbury District Junior Football Association and has life membership with 12 sporting and community clubs.
